The Ethics of Legal Process Outsourcing

Attorneys Virginia has posted a reasonably well-written and thoughtful entry about the ethics of legal process outsourcing.  Read it here.

Most web commentary about the ethics of legal process outsourcing is written by outsourcing firms and their employees.  Thus, a lot of what I see is neither authoritative nor especially illuminating.

I am not going to comment on any ethical issues related to legal outsourcing other than to say that I don't think that outsourcing to offshore destinations poses many (any) ethical questions that US lawyers have not faced in the past when using  staff to accomplish certain tasks.  Being a good lawyer has always required reliance upon lawyer and non-lawyer staff.  Whether a lawyer relies upon employees or vendors, or a combination of both, he or she must choose wisely.  Some things never change.
